Chelation therapy is a treatment used for patients with
heavy metal toxicity, atherosclerosis, or for those who are on an anti-aging
program.
Chelation therapyremoves toxic heavy
metals (such as lead and cadmium) and abnormally excessive metallic ions (such
as iron) from the body. This removal of excess metals in turn improves
metabolic and circulatory function, and can have a profound effect on a
person's sense of well-being.
The three most common chelation agents are EDTA (IV, oral,
or suppositories), DMSA (oral), DMPS (IV or oral)
EDTA is available in three forms:
Intravenous
(IV) – IV EDTA has been used by many practitioners for many decades to
treat patients with poor circulation (cardiovascular disease, peripheral
vascular disease) and conditions associated with heavy metal exposure
(cancer, autism, fatigue, neurological disorders).
·Cost Comparison regarding Bypass surgery VS
chelation:
Bypass
surgery repairs a small portion of one or more arteries in a small
region.
Total
costs: $30,000 to $50,000 or more.
Chelation
therapy is thought to improve the flow of blood through the entire
vascular system.
Total
costs: $2000 to $4000 for 20 to 40 treatments.
Oral –
oral EDTA has been available for some time, however, studies indicate that
absorption of EDTA via the gastro-intestinal tract is inconsistent and not
predictable.Oral EDTA tends to
only be used in cases where no other option is available.
Suppository
– I have yet to see any scientific data regarding absorption and
effectiveness of this form.
EDTA is typically used for removal
of lead, cadmium, or aluminum.Although
EDTA is sometimes listed as being able to bind to mercury, this tends to occur
only in vitro and does not in fact
work when administered to patients.
DMSA is available as a capsule.Typically DMSA is used for remove mercury,
lead, and cadmium, but may be used for other metals as well.
DMPS is available in an IV or oral format.Although both forms can work quite well, DMPS
is more prone to causing side effects than DMSA or EDTA.
Remember – before trying chelation of any kind, consult with
a qualified health professional regarding your particular situation.
